The Dubliners Are The Boarding House And Eveline
The stories I choose to write about in James Joyce book the Dubliners; are the Boarding House and Eveline. As a reader, I found that though the characters Polly and Eveline situations and events that have occurred in their lives are different yet they are also similar. On one hand we have Eveline that lives with her abusive father, her mother has died and her siblings are all grown up and have moved away, left to deal with her father alone. She works at a store where she is tired and feels trapped. Eveline is like most of us; wanting to be loved, to have a family, and to escape from a city that seems to be smothering her in hopes of having a better life, to feel free and alive. She meets a sailor by the name of Frank, Frank is kind, manly, and open hearted, nothing like her father. Eveline must meet Frank in secret for her father did not approve of their relationship because he thought that all sailors just wanted to take advantage of the young girls and never ask their hand in marri age, However Frank proved to be different. Frank did want to marry Evelin; she thought Frank would save her from this unhappiness and from this paralyzing city. Joyce takes us (the reader) to a place in Eveline life where she is remembering the death of her mother and how her mother suffered and how delirious her mother sickness made her at the end. The first theory that will be discussed is Operant Conditioning. Skinner developed the thought of Operant Conditioning the work of Edward Thorndike. Operant Conditioning consists of two different types of support. The first type of support is positive support. Positive support is a manner of reenforcing a coveted behavior in kids through positive feedback or wagess. Skinner ââ¬Ës Operant Conditioning Theory can clearly be seen within my scene. Throughout my puting each of the categories use Operant Conditioning a batch with the kids. In my peculiar schoolroom, the instructor uses a system known as the rainbow system. The kids ââ¬Ës names start off on the Sun at the beginning of the twenty-four hours and if they behave truly good and work truly difficult so there name will be moved up to the rainbow and if they continue to work hard so their names move up to the pot of gold. At the terminal of the twenty-four hours if there are kids whose names are still on the pot of gold so they receive a spine. However, if the kids are being riotous, they are given a warning by the instructor and if they carry on so their names and moved down to the cloudy sky image and so if they still carry on their names will be moved down to the rain cloud. I feel that Operant Conditioning theory is relevant in my scene as it is used systematically throughout the sch ool. First, it is non merely in the EYFS it is used, it is besides used in all of the other categories through a virtue system. The Worth of Education Scholarship Essay A few days ago, as I was eating lunch with friends, I entered a heated debate a bout the worth of education. "I should not have to learn algebra and calculus because it will have no influence on my life," my opponent angrily shouted as I tried to defend the usefulness of mathematics. Three days later, I still mul l over the issue, trying to arrive at the origin of the disparity of views betw een my opponent and me. I treasure every bit of knowledge I gain, in or out of school. When someone contends that a particular academic field or realm of inf ormation has no applications, I feel compelled to demonstrate the fallacy of such an argument by citing an example from my life. As a middle-schooler in Moscow, Russia, I took English for three years. Many of my peers grumbled about having to attend the course, adamant in their belief that these skills would be never used. However, some, including myself, felt that any offer of knowledge was to be accepted and stored away for possible later use. Lo and behold, three years after I signed up for my first English class, I found myself living in the United States, sending sincere thank you letters to my English teacher for supplying me with survival skills. If I had not taken my class seriously, my integration into the American society would have taken much longer. My attitude toward learning has not changed since. Striving to excel in every class I take, I regard education in all areas as relevant to my life, rather than remote. I try to link each piece of new information either to my intended field of study (Physics/Mathematics) or to personal enlightenment. Living up to my motto, "The measure of learning is its application," I prepare myself for all situations and achieve well-roundedness.
